Led research and program development for a social impact design foundation.

Role: Senior Researcher

Client/Partner: The Autodesk Foundation

Location: San Francisco, CA / Remote

Dates: 2013 - 2015

Context:

As a Senior Researcher for the Autodesk Foundation, I supported the growth and development of the Foundation’s programs, grantee pipeline, and internal learning. As one of the first employees, I was also responsible for leading various special projects including creating workshops, developing resources, writing articles, and developing website UX.

Process:

I led research for the Foundation, exploring and documenting the existing resources in the field of social impact design and developing strategies and proposals for the Foundation to grow the field. My research included interviews with thought leaders, landscape analysis, participation at dozens of conferences and gatherings, conducting focus groups, cataloging existing organizations and peers, and coalition building to advance the field of social impact design.

Outcomes:

My work supported the development of multiple Foundation programs, including a micro-grant program, a fellowship, and an impact assessment tool. As a contributing editor to the foundation’s blog ImpactDesignHub.org (formerly PublicInterestDesign.org) I helped produce publications, graphics, and articles that shed light on how designers could create projects and practices that address social and environmental justice.
